Shadow Shot Sunday: Kizhi, Russia

Beautiful shadows lurk in and behind the intricacies of church domes and household decorations in long-ago Russia, as seen on the island of Kizhi, an open-air museum and the northernmost point on our voyage aboard the Viking Surkov in August, 2011. © Photos by Kay Davies and Richard Schear

They certainly know how to 'do' churches those Russians - aren't they beautiful. Love the details x

I doubt there are very many artisans left in Russia (or anywhere else) that can do such intricate work anymore.

SHADOW BOLD

Shadow bold and shadow bright,
Shadow with me day and night,
Shadow taller than a tree,
Tell me what you think of me!

The domes are so lovely and so unusual in these parts where few domes seems to exist - that is the reason to travel, to take ill unique cultures we are not familiar with. The log building at its core is made of rough hewn timber. Yet the ornate detailing belies its humble origins. Lovely captures!
