My world: waiting for the eagles

There I am, on the left, waiting for the bald eagles to come out to play at Camp Kwomais
in the lovely Ocean Park area of south Surrey, British Columbia.

When the slightest bit of sun shows itself, up goes my 'Monet Parasol' because my skin breaks out in painful red spots when exposed to sunlight. My parasol doubles as an umbrella on rainy days, but I didn't get it wet at all during my recent visit to my family on 'the wet coast'.

It wasn't easy for my friend aka Penelope to capture a shot of the big, beautiful birds. They were soaring and floating on the breeze, the adults occasionally diving for fish to feed their late-hatching young, and the 1- and 2-year-old juveniles playfully swooping down toward the water without catching anything at all. Here are three of them, and we saw several more.

They fly so high it can be hard to get a shot. I like to watch them soar higher and higher until they are out of sight, even if it means I don't get a picture.

In reply to Kay's comment, NZ too is no different from Canada. This is today's news.

Sadly there will always be men who think women is not as good as men.

We just had a very controversial issue. The CEO of the Employers and Manufacturers Association made this comment: Women cannot be as good as men because of their monthly period.

It is good he got the SACK.

The board of the Employers and Manufacturers Association has dismissed its chief executive Alasdair Thompson over his controversial statements on women's workplace productivity.

What a lovely place ! and the sunprotecting/rain umbrella fits nicely in the landscape !
Yesterday I went to the Grand'Place and I saw lots of Japanese tourists with black ombrellas (against the sun) and masks !! As the masks were white, I didn't suspect that I was in the middle of bank robbers !

Oh it looks so beautiful there, Kay. Your friend did well to photograph birds in the sky. It must be one of the hardest things about photographing birds - them in flight. I struggle with many aspects of bird photography but this is one I never succeed at! Hope you're having a wonderful time with your friends and family. (((hugs))) Jo

A bench right on the beach with the waters as far as you can see. So peaceful, one could lose all sense of time.

British Columbia is such a beautiful place. (And I'm glad you have a fashionable umbrella to protect you from that sun!)

Love your umbrella/parasol. I've got about 15 orange ones. Left over from some trip long long ago!

What a gorgeous place to watch for the eagles. These are all wonderful shots. I always like to see people protecting their skin like you do because I'm a survivor of metastatic melanoma. I had to learn the hard way.

How marvelous that you had no rain while in White Rock/Surrey! I've been on that spot on a number of occasions, but have never seen eagles there... You lucky woman. Hope you had a fabulous time in BC, Kay.

I always get so excited to see eagles, even though I see them practically every day when I'm in Cape Breton. Great post today. ~karen

Well, if you have to sit and wait for eagles, at least you're in a lovely place to do it. And eagles are always worth waiting for.

I have to stay out of the direct sun too because for some reason, the tan I develop makes me look like a raccoon.
